We finally made it to the zoo!

After having to put it off for over a week due to illness and weather we finally took Elijah on his trip to the zoo. If you don't remember, it was his "prize" for being a big boy and going in the potty.

He is all in to taking these silly pics...

He had the "map" and would tell us where we're going next. Either it was a really small zoo or he's brilliant because he was right almost every time! It was funny. He would say, "Okay, okay, okay (his mouth works faster than his head sometimes), okay, next we're going to go to the elephants"...

He would ask Beau to carry him on his shoulders, but still tried to look at the map, not so good for Beau...

There, that's better....

Beau was teaching Elijah something about fish. I just loved Sadie though in this picture. I love it when you hold her and she puts her arm up on your shoulder...

Elijah and the coyote. Elijah would howl and the coyote would turn and look at him. He thought it was pretty cool...

The girl was fading fast...

Komodo Dragon...

Their new Asian Exhibit was neat. When Elijah would jump on the squares it would ring a bell. He loved making music...

Trying to master a rope swing...

Its easier when Papa helps...

Me and Elijah...
Ha!!

We had a great time. On Monday night we found out that some friends at church (the wife is the lady who has been keeping Sadie for us when I work) got us a membership to the zoo for our Christmas Present! We are so excited to be able to go now whenever we want!! Thank you Swift Family!!!

Martha would not be proud

I LOVE this time of year. I LOVE this time of my life. I was made to be a mom and I am having a blast. Sunday while Elijah took a nap I rushed to make some gingerbread dough so it could chill a few hours. The problem was I made it too fast and didn't pay attention to how stiff I made the dough. It ended up being too soft for cut outs, which shows. He still had a blast though.

Rolling out the dough and cutting out a "man"...

Placing it just right...

I could not keep him from eating the dough. He loves gingerbread dough...

My sweet boy...

Well, since my dough wasn't stiff enough they didn't turn out great...

They either had miss-shapen limbs...

Too tall...

Or too fat...

So then we changed our approach (since we were taking them to the community Thanksgiving service I didn't want people to be scared of them)...

Better. Who doesn't love a gingersnap?...

Elijah has his Thanksgiving feast today at school. I volunteered to help so I could be there with him. We also went to the zoo yesterday so I have a lot of blogs coming up. More later

The polls are closed!

If you notice to your right (on the screen) the polls have closed for the What to do about Elijah situation. We tried the Cheerios...that didn't work. So if you voted for that don't tell anyone. If you voted to run out of diapers you are semi right (which is also semi wrong! Ha!) We planned on running out of diapers, but it looks like we don't have to. We just left him alone. We would talk about going in the potty occasionally, but we weren't forcing anything. Then he just started out of the blue. We're going on 4 days completely diaper-free (except at bedtime) with no accidents!

I know this may be inappropriate (if you think it is blame Aimee, she told me to post it), but its just so cute....
That was yesterday at Beau's parents. Yesterday morning it was still rainy and cold, but Elijah seriously needed to get out of our house. So I called Beau's mom, invited myself and the kids over, showed up right at lunch time which she made us a yummy lunch. Then I sat on the couch while she played with Elijah then Frankie came home and took us all out to dinner. Not too shabby! While we were there Janice's friend brought her grand kids over to play. They are actually the kids of Beau's best friend growing up. Pam and Janice kept commenting on how weird it was to watch Beau and Kyle's sons playing in the floor just like Beau and Kyle used to.

Cooper and Elijah playing...

Sadie playing with Aunt Crystal. She's smiles all the time. Ahhh...my golden girl!

We had a great time. For the past 4+ years we've lived so far away and now its so nice to be so close that we can just make a super short drive to spend the day with family.
Elijah and I are off to make some Gingerbread Men.

Bad News/Good News

Bad News: Sorry its been so long and sorry there are no pics this time (I don't think you'd want to see any). Both my babies are sick! Sadie started getting a cough last Friday and it just wouldn't go away. Wednesday I decided to take her in to the MD since I had to work Thursday and Friday and I wouldn't be able to take her and I didn't want it to get into the weekend and her still be sick. Its a good thing we went. The doctor said the cough is "good" since it is clearing her lungs of the gunk. She's had a little bit of fever and not eating much, which made since when he looked in her ears. Yup...nasty ear infection! So she was sent home on antibiotics and cough syrup. When I got home (I had been gone Tuesday and most of Wednesday at Mandy's) Elijah had a cough! Grrr! I kept him them both home from church and put them to bed early. Elijah went to school on Thursday and Sadie went to Jackie's. By yesterday Elijah's cough was really bad and so I called the MD, got some dosages for cough syrup for his weight and picked up some medicine for him after work. He had a fever during the night which kept him (and us) up most of the night and has run a low grade temp all morning. I just hope he doesn't have an ear infection too! Sadie seems to be slowly getting better, but Elijah is getting worse. He's complaining of his "mouth hurting" (sore throat). Please keep my kiddos in your prayers. I put them both down for a nap this morning (Elijah hasn't taken a morning nap in 2 years, but he really needed it).

Good News: Elijah has been teetee-ing in the potty!! Apparently he went up to his teacher at school on Thursday and told her he needed to go. She took him and he did it all by himself. Then on Thursday evening (I was still at work) Beau was getting Sadie dressed for bed and Elijah went again by himself and came and told Beau afterwards! I made a huge deal about it when I got home. Elijah immediately told me he gets to go to the zoo now (I had promised I would take him if he went in the potty). I said okay and he went to start getting dressed. I told him we couldn't go since all the animals were sleeping and that seemed to hold him over. He went a couple more times yesterday. Today while I was feeding Sadie he told me he needed to go, took off his pants and diaper and went in the potty. He promptly came back and told me he was ready to go to the zoo now. I said no because he was sick. "I'm not sick. I'm a big boy" So then I said we couldn't go since Sadie is sick. "Sadie can stay here" Shoulda guessed that! Then the light bulb came on. "Well, Elijah, some of the animals are sick so we better wait a few days" That seemed to suffice him. I think we may try to go Monday if they are both well. Better go...they're waking up.

A Weekend Away

Beau had to be gone this weekend to a retreat so I took the kids to Papaw and Juju's. It so nice to be able to take a day or weekend trip. I've seen my family more in the past few weeks than I normally did in a year living in Houston! We missed Beau, but we had a great time.

Sadie at Jannie's house...
Don't you just want to eat her!?

Getting so big!

Loving each other...

If Elijah wasn't eating or sleeping he was outside with the dogs. It was really a great weekend weather-wise. Don't be alarmed by him being outside in his diaper in November...it was really warm. I had actually packed clothes that were too warm so he was better off in his diaper.

Showing me his "bucket" of food. He would fill it up from the dog's bowls then walk around and every few minutes he would take out a few pieces to feed them. I'm telling you...he's going to be a zoo keeper. You know how they have the food in a pouch on their belts? He would totally love that!!

This is what my girl did...

She enjoyed playing outside too...

"Ohh...look at that!!"

Running off to feed the dogs some more...

I asked Elijah to take a picture with me...
I didn't realize til after that he was making a funny face (just like his dad). I laughed and so he wanted to do more funny face pics...

Then he wanted to do some by himself!...

Another thing Sadie has been doing in the past few weeks. Clapping...

She likes for you to say "yaaah!" when she laughs!
She also has been waiving a little. Sadie and I are going to stay with Mandy tomorrow night. More later.

Shots, shots, and more shots

Today I braved the pediatrician's office with both kids, all by myself!! It went well. It would have gone better had it not been smack dab in the middle of nap time. Sadie and I picked Elijah up early from school and headed into town.

Checking in...(Elijah was off playing)

In the room. Elijah was coloring on the exam table paper and Sadie was going thru the diaper bag...

Elijah LOVED the wall mural...animals, of course. He's pointing out each animal to me and Sadie is chewing on a tongue depressor...

My sweet girl...
While they did Sadie's measurements another nurse took Elijah and did all his. He also did a hearing screening and a vision test which he aced. Here were their measurements:
Elijah 30 lbs 14 oz = 39th %
3 ft 1 1/4 inches = 47%
BMI 15.5 = 33%
(They don't measure heads after 3 yrs which is good for Elijah...he's got a huge noggin)
Sadie
16 lbs 2 oz = 34%
26 inches = 38%
Head Circ 17cm = 74%(Which is interesting b/c she said her head is pretty small, but not in a
bad way)
They also got vaccinated. Elijah got 2: H1N1 mist (he was not a fan), Seasonbad way)al Flu shot (really not a fan). Sadie got 5 shots and an oral!! My poor, poor baby! It was going to be 7 shots and an oral, but I had her check and 3 of the vaccines could be mixed together. She got her 5 normal vaccine injections for six months, the oral Rotovirus, Seasonal Flu shot and H1N1 shot.
They both crashed on the way home (we were there over 2 hours!) and as soon as they wake up I'll be dosing them with plenty of Tylenol!! I'm also expecting to be up more than normal tonight (unless I do really well on the Tylenol dosing!)
(Have you ever seen so many parenthesis in one blog!!!) Ha!
I have my first day "on the floor" in the ICU tomorrow!! I did luck out though, I got a preceptor for tomorrow who only works 8 hour shifts so I'll be done at 3. That's good for 2 reasons. 1) I'm sure 8 hours will be plenty for me to be thoroughly exhausted and 2) I'll still get to go to church. Wish me luck!
