Zoo Tales

A few months ago I found out that the zoo has a summer camp. It is 3 mornings for $50. At first I thought that was a lot of money for a few hours, but Elijah loves animals so I decided to give it a shot.

Trying to get him to say cheese after I signed him in on Monday...

He took the picture above and turned to leave. I said, "Elijah, please look at the camera!" This is what I got...

Sadie and I ran errands for a few hours then came back to pick him up.

Waiting for brother...

"Sadie, where's your belly?"..

Then Elijah came running out...

I said, "Elijah, what did you learn about?" This is him saying (I wish I had it on video) "I fed the giraffes..." He was just naming off everything he did.

They had story time, listened to the zoo keeper for the giraffes teach them about the giraffes and then got to feed them. Elijah told me he also got to "feed the cantaloupes" I was a little confused, but remembered that the antelopes are right by the giraffes. I said, "you mean the antelopes?" He said, "Yeah, that's what I said." Okay.

Tuesday they wore their tshirts for a group picture...

He, of course, wanted to do a silly face....

Tuesday Elijah got to learn about alligators. He even got to pet a baby alligator! He made this hat. When I asked if I could take a picture of him this is what he did...

Ham.

This morning we got to the zoo before camp ended so I could get a few pics of Elijah.

"Where's Elijah?"...

Found him...

Just playing on the playground for a few minutes before camp ends...

Then he found a worm...

Getting in line...

Sadie thought she should get in line too...

Then she took a detour...

Drink break...

They got to keep their water bottle too!

After seeing how much fun he had I think I would have paid $50 a day! It was especially nice because Beau was gone all week and it gave me some "babysitting" time. Sadie and I had fun. We ran errands and went to the gym while Elijah was learning. We'll definitely do it again next year!

Safety First!

Elijah has been afraid of water since I can remember. He is perfectly fine and has a great time wading in the kiddie pool, but had gotten to the point that he wouldn't even get in the "deep end" if you held him. The kids and I went to Stephenville for the weekend. We swam the whole weekend. Friday evening my dad coerced Elijah into the "deep end". Elijah had a life jacket on and realized he could "swim". By Saturday Elijah was swimming all over the pool by himself. He even went down the slide!! You have no idea what a big deal that is! We were worrying about if we should put him in swim lessons, but I think our problem is solved.

I had to get these pictures to prove to Beau that it really happened.

This is the funny part. Elijah felt most comfortable if he had his life jacket on and was in the tube float. But, hey, I don't care...he was in the water.

Bubbles and PBS

Last week we had VBS at church. It apparently is not as big of a deal here as it was at our church in Alvin, but I don't think Elijah even noticed. He loved it. It was Mon-Wed evening and he talked about it all day every day. When we sat down for dinner one night he said, "Mom, we better hurry so we can go to PBS." Ha! I guess we watch too much tv. I said, "PBS? What is that?" He said, "You know, Mom, Indication Bible School." Interesting.

Beau took Elijah every evening while Sadie and I had time together. I love the way Elijah is looking at Brady in this picture. Everyone loves Brady...

Playing a game...

Listening to the lesson...

On Wednesday morning we took our weekly trip to the library to watch the Incredible Bubble Show. It was awful. I was so upset. The show was no good and the "Bubble Lady" was rude, mean and just unpleasant. All the other moms around me were uncomfortable. We actually left early. I don't think I've left anything like that early, but Elijah was feeling the stress in the room and wanted to leave. I came home, calmed down and wrote a letter to the library. I was so upset.

Sadie and I waiting for the show to start...

Let's just say at one point right before we left the lady pulled a child (who I think was mentally disabled) by the arm out of the group of kids for doing this...

I don't understand how anyone could expect a bunch of kids under the age of 5 to "sit on their bottom with hands in laps" with bubbles flying around FOR AN HOUR! If a child did what Elijah did above she stopped the show to get onto them.

Father's Day (Weekend)

The Saturday before Father's Day we went to Rosebud to celebrate with Beau's family. After lunch we had some yummy homemade ice cream...thanks Amy!

Brooklyn and Elijah loved it...

Did Sadie like it?...

Are you kidding? Of course she did!...

On Sunday we went to church, came home and had lunch with Beau's parents. I made roast and all the fixin's and don't forget the blackberry cobbler! Beau got a flag to put on the the front porch "from the kids" for his gift. It was a great Father's Day for a great father.

Triple your pleasure!

I have 3 blogs below!!! Enjoy.

If you give a moose a muffin...

I have really been missing the mom's club I was in back in Alvin. I haven't been able to find anything like that around here so I thought to myself, "self, just start one yourself!" So I did. Friday we had our first activity. I hosted Story time. We read If You Give a Moose a Muffin.
I didn't get any pictures of reading the story being read because I was the one reading the story!
After reading the story we gathered around the table to make muffins...
Each child was able to add an ingredient. Robert cracking the egg...
Ben stirring the egg...

At this point Jessica took over the photography...

I'm pretty convinced Jessica spent the remainder of the time trying to take horrible pictures of me. It couldn't just be that I look that bad...

Then we moved onto the craft portion of our morning...

We made sock puppets...

Ding!! The muffins are ready!

This is Ben. Please excuse the camera cord in the way. I. Love. This. Kid. I love it when he says "I love you Miss Ewica!"
Brooklyn and Amy were in town, we were so excited they were able to come...

After muffins we had a little play time for the kids and chill time for the moms...

Well, most of the moms were chilling. I found Jessica hanging with the kids...

We had a great time!! We have planned more activities!
